Council Code of Conduct
In May 2025, the Government of Alberta passed Bill 50, the Municipal Affairs Statutes Amendment Act, 2025. In a mandate letter issued by the Premier of Alberta to the Minister of Municipal Affairs on September 22, 2025, the Minister has been tasked to “Complete work on a universal code of conduct for elected municipal officials and senior municipal staff that strengthens decorum and protects the freedom of speech of elected members, while ensuring an elected member cannot be impeded from fulfilling their duties as an elected representative by their elected colleagues”.
