Municipal Affairs Handbook: What every councillor needs to know
Qualifications of candidates:
To run for Council, you must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- 18 years of age or older
- Canadian citizen
- Have been a resident of the Town of Vauxhall for the six consecutive months preceding Nomination Day
- You are not otherwise ineligible or disqualified
Criteria for Ineligibility:
A person is ineligible to become a candidate under any of the following circumstances:
- If you are auditor of the municipality
- If you are an employee of the Town of Vauxhall, unless granted a leave of absence
- If your property taxes are more than $50 in arrears or you are in default of more than 90 days for any debt in excess of $500 to the municipality
- If you have, within the last 10 years, been convicted of an offence under the Local Authorities Election Act, the Election Act, the Election Finances and Contributions Disclosure Act or the Canada Elections Act.
Nomination Period:
The Nomination Period for the 2025 Municipal Election will start January 1st, 2025.
Nomination Day:
September 22, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at the Town of Vauxhall Administration Office (223 – 5th Street).
